We did another half... this time I pulled other people along with me in my craziness. My favorite... was Scott! It was the Saints and Sinners Half out by Lake Mead during the last weekend of October. We drove out Friday night, and back home on Saturday. We are crazy.
My friends Jen and Tiffany came from Poway too... they killed it. Tiffany's first half!! We all stuck together for the beginning, I love running with these girls. We spent many mornings training around Lake Miramar together. We got to a super steep hill I wasn't expecting and I was freaking out. Hills are my nemesis. I knew it would kill my goal of under 2 hours. I wanted to cry and we had barely started. Tiffany totally got me through it.
She calmed me down, told me we could do it, and told me to keep moving my feet. She did such a good job distracting me and making me focus on pace that I didn't realize I was over the hill. I seriously could not have finished the race with out her.
My friend Mariah also made this her first half! She ran with her husband- they were seriously the cutest couple on the course... coordinating outfits! (ok- all black, but still.) She's already run another half- she's amazing, I want to be her. I wish so badly we were next door neighbors. My life would then be complete :)
I got the fam bam to join in on this one. I was SO proud of everyone working so hard to train and make it to this race.
So proud of Scott who trained through a couple injuries, but didn't let those stop him. Don't we look excited to race?!
The girls- minus Hannah :( who was being a responsible student and not skipping class. One of the girls in this picture may or may not have SKIPPED her leg of the relay and joined in with the runners at the end.
Cutest race couple. I can't even tell if this is before or after the race because they looked this awesome both places!
A medal, and a kiss.
I know this is gross, I made it small. I had to document how messed up my feet were. I had a bunch of huge blisters and FOUR toenails fell off. The downhill was killer. So crazy. Again, the recovery was not my favorite. I have got to get that part of half marathon's figured out.
Mariah surprised me with this awesome bracelet after the race. I love it so much. To me that number doesn't just represent what I did one Saturday morning, but all the training, the not giving up, the sacrificing sleep, and the strength that my body and heart has gained. I am proud of myself and so proud of all my friends and family who did this with me.
And I think I'm done with half marathons :)

This is SO inspiring Megan! Thanks for sharing. I think I need one of those bracelets. Mine would have to say "Six kids" though :) Someday I want to do a half marathon, but until then, I am incredibly proud of my current accomplishment. And it is enough for now. You are AMAZING my friend!
ReplyDeleteSo you are on to the full marathon then, is that what you are saying???
ReplyDeleteMegan, you are seriously awesome! And inspiring. After this baby it may just be the time I get into running. You look amazing and happy. Congrats!
